For this first reference of Playa we are going to Valencia to find the work of a french settled in the Turia River City, Darlyn Vlys, and a remix of also Valencian Samuel Dan. Born in Nimes, this frenchman called Sylvain moved to Valencia 3 years ago where he created his alter ego Darlyn Vlys to start a new promising career, and we say promising, since very soon we will be able to listen to the works being published in labels such as International Freakshow, Composite, Metroline, District Raw, Upon You or Sincopat (owned by also Valencian Affkt), besides these published in Get Physical or Monique Musique. To complete this great release we have a remix of Samuel Jee previously known as Samuel Knob. We have been able to listen to his works in labels such as Trapez, Upon You, Viva Music, Barraca Music or Eklektisch. Diamond Dog is the new project from Cagliari, Italy-based producers Acirne and Signor Andreoni. Acirne is the co-founder of T-Bet and is also a video artist in addition to her music production work. Andreoni is a classically trained jazz guitarist, and since his earlier solo releases on TuningSpork Records, he now focuses mostly on two collaborative projects, Bunkers (with Alessio Mereu) and as you hear here, Diamond Dog. After the Double-D duo debuted earlier this year with the Mosaic EP on Contexterrior – getting DJ support from the likes of Adam Beyer, Chloe, Loco Dice, Brothers Vibe, D'Julz, Lauhaus... – Acirne brought Andreoni and young DJ talent Cherry Baker on board to help run T-Bet, and together the three have recorded this new EP, hence the title, When the Dog Eats the Cherry. (Somehow it sounded better than When the Diamond Eats the Baker…) |

Robert Hood returns after last year's 'Minimal Nation' re-issue with his new artist album Omega. The album is based on the 1971 classic science fiction film, 'The Omega Man' starring Charlton Heston and derived from Richard Matheson's 1954 novel 'I Am Legend' (which was recently re-adapted to the big screen). The album is not intended as an exact soundtrack to run alongside the original film, but Hood was heavily influenced by the movie and has used it as his inspiration. This album's concept is a long-held vision of Hood's and the film's stimulus has presented itself both musically here, and even spiritually for him, since he watched it as a child. Its themes appear even more relevant today and continue to haunt: "it's definitely metaphoric," he says "and if we don't heed the signs, this is where we'll end up. We live in a society where we just consume. We just take. We don't operate on the concept of giving". |
